Jose Mourinho says the Premier League title race will be over if Liverpool beat Man City

According to Jose Mourinho Liverpool will go on to win the Premier League if they beat Manchester City today.

Liverpool head into the epic encounter at Anfield six points clear of title rivals City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are yet to lose in the Premier League this season, with City tasting defeat twice.

Many believe it is a must-win game for City due to the gap to Liverpool but Mourinho instead reckons a draw would satisfy Pep Guardiola and his team.

I would say that if Liverpool wins the game today, I think they will win the league

He says it is more of a must-win for Liverpool, who he thinks must capitalise on the “fragilities” City have at the moment, most notably in defence and in goal.

Mourinho said on Sky Sports: “I think Jurgen [Klopp] cannot say it but I can. I think nine points is, for a very good team, I think nine points is a different that you just have to control.

“So I would say that if Liverpool wins the game today, I think they will win the league.

“No [a point is not enough for Liverpool], I don’t think so. City’s a very good team, City’s capable of very strong runs of consecutive victories, a slip for Liverpool will always happen.
“So I think if today, it can look a little bit of a contradiction because Liverpool is a team that has a six points advantage, but for me a draw would be a positive result for City and a bad result for Liverpool.

“Liverpool has to get the momentum, has to get the little bit of the fragilities of City at the time.

“And in my opinion win the game at home, at Anfield, is the only good result for Liverpool.”

Manchester City look set to be without No 1 goalkeeper Ederson due to the thigh injury he picked up in the 1-1 Champions League draw against Atalanta on Wednesday.
