NEWS: Senate to Chief Justice Explain why you advised Buhari to decline assent to 17 bill

The tug of war existing between the different arms of Government and the presidency has took  another step further after President Buhari declined over 20 bills pass by the national assembly earlier this month.  In a bid to understand the reasons for the unexplained rebuffed bills by the President,  the Senate earlier set up a  Technical committee to investigate reasons.
The Technical Committee set up by the Senate has asked the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, to explain why he advised President Muhammadu Buhari to decline assent to over 17 bills passed by the National Assembly.

Senator David Umoru (APC, Niger East) who the  chairman of the committee posed the question on Friday when the technical committee engaged the Chief Justice, in Abuja, over the matter.

He reminded Justice Onnoghen that President Buhari had, in a letter to the Senate, stated that he rejected the bills based on advice he received from him earlier in the year.

Senator Umoru specifically said, “Your Lordship, this committee on behalf of the Senate and by extension, the National Assembly wants to hear from you directly on why you advised the President refusing assent to the bill.

“We believe that information made available to us via his letter of refusal to assent to the bills on account of advice given by your lordship is also available to you”.

But sadly, journalists were ordered to leave the venue before the CJN could give he's response to  the question.

Consequently, journalists could not obtain the details of the CJN’s response, as the meeting.

Justice Onnoghen declined comments, as all efforts to obtain content of the response was fruitless.
